Aurelia Chen
The Photographer

Aurelia Chen.

Based in Singapore. Drawn to quiet light and honest faces.

Origin

I came to photography sideways — through poetry, through painting, and one disposable camera I never returned to my mother. I trained at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore, then spent four years assisting wedding and editorial photographers across Asia before opening my own studio in 2019.

My first paid job was a friend's quiet city-hall wedding. Twelve guests, two hours, one roll of film. I still keep a print from that day on the studio wall.

Behind the scenes
Philosophy

I believe a photograph is the only thing capable of holding a moment honestly — without freezing it, without dressing it up. I'm not interested in flattering my subjects. I'm interested in recognising them.

I don't direct poses. I direct moments. I ask you to walk, to talk, to look toward a window. The frame comes from paying attention.

"A photograph is the only object that holds time still without stopping it."

The Studio Now

Aurelia Studio is a small, deliberate practice. I take on around thirty commissions a year — a few weddings, a handful of brand campaigns, and a steady current of portrait sittings. Every commission is mine alone.

If you like quiet, honest images and a calm shoot day, we will get on.
